Event Ticket Soft Credits

Events: Event Ticket Soft Credits

Introduction

Event ticket purchases that include multiple attendees often require flexible payment handling, especially when organizations allow partial payments or down payments during registration. To accommodate this workflow, CharityEngine now creates a soft credit transaction for each individual ticket registration when multiple tickets are purchased in a single transaction.

This enhancement allows each ticket registration to maintain its own payment association while also supporting balance tracking and rate adjustments at the individual ticket level. Organizations can more accurately manage attendee balances, registration records, and payment reporting for event participants.

Best Practices

Use Consistent Ticket Pricing Structures

Maintain standardized ticket rates whenever possible to simplify reporting and balance management.

Review Registrations After Partial Payments

Organizations allowing down payments should periodically review attendee balances to ensure accurate follow-up and collection.

Validate Reporting Filters

When building event or transaction reports, verify whether soft credit transactions should be included or excluded depending on reporting goals.

FAQ & Further Reading

Q. Why are multiple soft credit transactions being created for one event payment?

A. CharityEngine creates one soft credit transaction per ticket registration so each attendee can maintain an individual payment association and balance.

Q. Can ticket balances differ between attendees in the same transaction?

A. Yes. Individual ticket rates can be adjusted independently, allowing each attendee registration to maintain its own balance.

Q. Does this impact event reporting?

A. Potentially. Reports filtering by transaction type or payment relationships may need to account for ticket-level soft credit records.

Q. Are soft credit transactions automatically created?

A. Yes. This process occurs automatically whenever multiple event tickets are purchased in a single transaction.
